Jesus is RISEN! In the book of Acts, Luke writes about Jesus and how he appeared to the apostles many times after his death to prove he was indeed ALIVE. During the 40 days after his resurrection, Jesus talked to the apostles about the promise of the Holy Spirit. John baptized with water representing new life. The old life had gone and the new life had come. But Jesus was promising something else. In a few days, they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5). They would receive power to continue the work that Jesus gave them to do and fulfill their purpose. But not by anything they could do on their own power... they would be equipped by the power of the Holy Spirit. As promised, God would send the Holy Spirit to guide them, provide for, correct and protect them. Through this power, they would reach their known world for Christ.
Isn't that amazing?
What's amazing still is
we have that same power, the power that rose Christ from the dead (Acts 4:10) available to us today . Jesus wants us to reach our
known world for Christ no matter who we are or where we are. For some of us, it
may be showing Jesus to our families, or our kids and their friends. For others it may be going
on missions trips to remote areas of faraway places. Whatever God is calling us
to do know this - we will receive power just like the apostles did. The Holy
Spirit will be our guide all the way.
After Jesus told the
apostles that they would receive the Holy Spirit he was lifted into heaven and
a cloud hid him from their sight. The apostles just stood there just watching. Have
you ever thought about what you would do if you saw Jesus ascending? As the
apostles watched, two men approached them and said "why are you standing
there looking at the sky? Jesus whom you saw taken up to heaven will come back the
same way you saw him go (Acts 1:9 – 11)."
Whoa... can anyone guess
what the moral of this story is??? Don't get caught standing around
watching when Jesus returns.... He has a purpose and a plan for our life
and it is up to us to fulfill it.
So what are you waiting
for?
Go; fulfill your God
given purpose!
